The grade of Member (MIMMM) comes with the recognition of an individual’s professional knowledge, experience, and understanding in a technical discipline associated with the Institute of Materials, Minerals Mining.
Those who hold the MIMMM grade are expected to exercise independent judgment in both practical experience and the use of scientific, environmentalist, and engineering principles. They will be innovative in technical subjects that are related to materials and natural resources in one or more of the following:
- Processing,
- Exploration,
- Extraction,
- Selection,
- Forming,
- Development,
- Application,
- Manufacturing,
- Research,
- Reuse,
- Recycling and
- Repurposing
Requirements:
The following are the requirements you need to fulfill to attain this status:
- You are required to possess the minimum of a bachelor’s degree that can be a BEng, BTech, BSc, BSc(Eng), and so on, or comparable to RQF Level 6/SCQF Level 9/10 qualification in a related science, engineering, technology, or environmental subject.
- You must have a minimum of four years of related working experience. This working experience can be the time you spent completing an EngD or Ph.D.
Those without a bachelor’s degree or equivalent but with significant related working experience may be taken into consideration for the Member grade on the basis of their work-based learning. You should contact the Institute to know more about it if you choose this way.
Otherwise, those who don’t satisfy these criteria may think about applying for the grade of Associate (AIMMM).

- It will allow you to apply for Interim Professional Registration if looking to be eligible in due course to apply for recognition as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council.
- The grade of MIMMM will let you have entry to the Institute’s Professional Registration Workshops.
- This membership will let you have a Mentor to support your application to attain professional registration.
- You will receive free entry to the Institute’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop.
- The membership will let you have free entry to IOM3’s Fellowship workshop.
- It will let you apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) card for which you will be required to pass the related CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test or an acceptable alternative.
- You will be able to apply for recognition with Minerals Reporting accreditation under the terms of the CRIRSCO templated Codes of Reporting. Besides that, you will be added to the Institute’s register from which practitioner credential due diligence checks can be done by the public.
