Before you become qualified to apply for your APEGS professional licence, it’s a must for you to have four years of engineering work experience or geoscience work experience evaluated by the Experience Review Committee.
Requirements:
To be eligible for an APEGS licence, you need to have registration as an engineering-in-training or geoscientist-in-training, or as a member-in-training candidate who has been assigned the work experience reporting to try and have confirmatory exams waived.
CBA, Competency-Based Assessment:
The Association of Professional Engineers Geoscientists of Saskatchewan uses an online competency-based assessment (CBA) system for the evaluation of the work experience of licence applicants. Besides providing validated examples to demonstrate each of the competencies, one must have at least four years of experience validated in the CBA system.
How to report work experience in the system:
To report your work experience in the CBA system, follow the steps given below:
Get to https://competencyassesment.ca.
Choose the ‘Applications’ section.
Stick to those instructions that appear on the screen.
Make your account by using your APEGS registration or application number as your User ID.
Pick ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.
You will get an email notification on the approval of your account. The notification of the approval may take up to 5 business days. These accounts are approved by the authority manually M-F 8:00 to 5:00.
Reach the system by choosing ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’, the CBA system.
Start putting in your information adhering to the instructions appearing on the screen. At this time, your education will not show in this system.
Paper-Based Reporting:
If having already started reporting your experience in the old paper-based system, you complete your APEGS experience reporting in the paper-based system or, ideally, move to the new CBA system. If you have not begun your experience reporting, you must use the CBA system.
You should get your evaluation result within a period of 6 to 8 weeks after the submission of your report. If your report has any errors or omissions, the authority will contact you to inform you and the report will be submitted again.
