These two are practical experience and management of engineering. However, before we tell you about them, we want to you have an overview of the work experience requirement.

Work experience PEO:

According to the law of Ontario, the required PEO experience criteria are four years of engineering work experience to your professional engineering license. A minimum of one year of your experience must be attained in a Canadian jurisdiction. It is to ensure that you have enough exposure to Canadian engineering legislation, codes, technical standards, and regulations.

PEO assesses applicants’ engineering experience against five quality-based criteria:

  1. Application of theory;
  2. Practical experience;
  3. Management of engineering;
  4. Communication skills; and
  5. Knowledge of the social implications coming from engineering.

For an engineering license, you need to demonstrate at least 48 months of acceptable, verifiable engineering experience which you earned after completing your undergraduate engineering degree.

  1. Management of engineering:

Managing engineering projects includes supervising staff, managing projects, being exposed generally to an engineering business environment, and handling technology from a societal perspective. Acceptable management components consist of:

  • Planning, from identifying needs, developing concepts, assessing alternative ways, and evaluating necessary resources, to planning for the social ramifications;
  • Fixing, from establishing interactions and constraints, developing activity or task schedules, allocating resources, and evaluating the delay implications, to determining and evaluating projects’ interaction with the marketplace and other projects;
  • Budgeting, from developing conceptual and detailed budgets identifying materials, labor, and overhead, to evaluating the risk of cost escalation, and reviewing budgets considering change;
  • Supervision, including leadership and professional conduct, organizing human resources, encouraging teams, and handling technology;
  • Project control, the necessary understanding of the elements of a greater whole, coordinating phases of project work, monitoring schedules and expenditures, and taking corrective action;
  • Evaluation of risk, related to operating equipment and system performance, technological risk, product performance, and environmental and social implications.

Practical experience:

The practical experience of PEO work experience quality criteria practical experience provides applicants with an appreciation of the fundamental roles of function, time, cost, reparability, reliability, safety, and environmental impact in their work.

Practical experience must include components such as:

  • The function of components as a part of the larger system, including, for instance, opportunities to experience the reliability merits, the role of computer software, or the relationship of the end product to the equipment and the equipment control systems;
  • Opportunities to understand and experience the limits of practical engineering and related human systems in attaining desired goals, including, for instance, limits of production methods, manufacturing tolerances, operating and maintenance philosophies, and ergonomics;
  • Opportunities or experience the value of time in the engineering process, including workflow difficulties, fixing, equipment wear out, corrosion rates, and replacement schedule;
  • Opportunities to earn knowledge and understanding of codes, regulations, standards, and laws governing applicable engineering activities.
