Before being qualified to apply for your APEGS professional licence, you need to have four years of engineering/geoscience work experience evaluated by the Experience Review Committee.
Eligibility criteria:
For eligibility, you need to have registration as an engineering-in-training or geoscientist-in-training or a member-in-training applicant who has been given the option of work experience reporting to try and get confirmatory exams waived.
CBA:
APEGS uses an online competency-based assessment (CBA) system for the evaluation of your work experience. Besides providing validated examples for the demonstration of each of the competencies, you need to have a minimum of four years of experience validated in the system.
Other necessary information concerning the competency-based assessment process for validators, applicants and assessors can be found in the Competency Assessment Guide, which is available on the official website. We strongly recommend that you should carefully review this guide before beginning your evaluation.
How to report in the CBA system?
Get to https://competencyassessment.ca.
Choose the section of ‘Applicants’.
Stick to the instructions appearing on the screen.
Make an account with your APEGS Registration/Application number as your User ID.
Choose ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.
You will get a mail notification when your account is accepted. It may take at most 5 business days. These accounts have manual approval M-F 8:00 to 5:00.
Reach the system picking ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’.
Start entering your information adhering to the instructions appearing on the screen. At this point, your educational information doesn’t show in this system.
If facing any problems in using the system, contact the APEGS authority.
On the assessment of your experience, you will get the result by mail. If you don’t pass the first time, you will get the opportunity to redo any competencies that did satisfy the given requirements.
You should get your assessment result within six to eight weeks after the completion of all validations. In the case of having your validators unacceptable, APEGS will let you know, and the validation process will need to be redone.
Paper-Based Reporting:
Note: From January 1, 2024, APEGS will not accept any paper-based work experience reports. All final and interim reports need to be received by APEGS by the 31st of December, 2023.
If having already started APEGS experience reporting using the old paper-based system, complete your reporting in that system or, ideally, choose the new competency-based assessment system.
If you have not already begun your experience reporting, you must choose the online CBA system.
You should get your assessment within a period of 6 to 8 weeks after the submission of your report. If there are any errors or omissions in your report, the authority will inform you, and then you have to resubmit the report.
Why you should hire a professional:
Hiring an APEGS competency report writing expert will help you report your work experience in the new system or complete the task of experience reporting in the paper-based reporting system.
