Do you aim for CPEng Australia status, as you have 15+ years of experience as a professional engineer? There is good news for you, as Engineers Australia (EA) provides an opportunity for experienced engineers like you to attain Chartership.

Eligibility criteria:
You need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply:
- You must have a minimum of 15 years of post-graduate experience.
- Having held major responsibility across your career including leading projects or teams is a must for you.
- You need to be an Engineers Australia member at the Member level or higher.
How to apply?
When eligible, you must follow the below-given instructions to apply:
- Pre-approval:
Make an expanded resume in which you detail major projects you have been responsible for and your key attainments. It should include the positions you have held, situations, problems, and opportunities you have faced, and the expert skills or knowledge you applied to attain a positive outcome. Its purpose is to make sure that assessors can clearly know you have fulfilled all the 16 Engineers Australia competencies that are related to your occupational category.
You must include the names, positions, companies and contact details of two referees in your resume. One of your referees must be able to verify your resume and qualifications. After that, mail your resume and referees to Engineers Australia to request to apply for Chartered for 15 +years’ experience.
- Self-assessment:
After that, you will get an email from EA in which you will a self-assessment form to complete. Fill out the self-assessment form, and email it back to Engineers Australia.
If your pre-approval is confirmed, you will get another mail from EA with a link that will allow you to apply via the EA portal.
- Prepare and upload documentation:
Use the received link in the mail, and adhere to the prompts in the portal to upload the following:
- The resume you mailed to EA including the details of your two referees.
- Proof of your CPD (continuing professional development). You need to have completed at least 150 hours of CPD over the previous 3 years.
- A color-scanned copy of your photo identification, passport, or driving licence.
- Professional interview:
A professional interview with an EA assessor is the last step for achieving the CPEng Australia status.
It will contact you to fix a time for your professional interview with one of its assessors, and you will get an invitation to the online Teams or Skype interview. It usually takes a few weeks for an interview to be fixed.
The interview will last nearly one hour and will include a wide discussion about your engineering career. The evaluator will look for proof that you have fulfilled the 16 competency requirements that are related to your occupational category.
They will also use the interview to ascertain the deepness of your engineering experience and knowledge in your areas of practice.
It is recommended but not compulsory to prepare a short presentation in which you introduce yourself and highlight the key projects or activities illustrating your attainments. Have at most six to eight slides.
