Friendship Peak Trek is a challenging but rewarding trek that starts from picturesque Manali in Himachal Pradesh. The trek passes through the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges, culminating at the Friendship Peak (5,289 meters). The trek is not for the faint-hearted – it is a difficult hike that requires a good level of fitness. However, the stunning views of the Himalayas make it all worth it. To complete this trek a minimum 10 days is required.

The trekking route passes through thick oak forests, alpine meadows, boulders, glaciers and snow-capped peaks, making for a spectacular journey. It is a 10 day trek without buffer days, but it is important to be fit and well-prepared for the hike. The day wise guide is as follows:

 

Day 1: Arrive in Manali. Take the half day to settle down with the weather. Go for sightseeing in the region.

 

Day 2: Drive from Manali to Dhundi and trek to Bakarthach Dhundi is the starting point of the trek.

 

Day 3: Trek from Bakarthach to Bedni Bugyal

 

Day 4: Trek from Bedni Bugyal to Ali Bugyal

 

Day 5: Trek from Ali Bugyal to Roopkund

 

Day 6: Trek from Roopkund to Patar Nachauni

 

Day 7: Trek from Patar Nachauni to Didna

 

Day 8: Trek from Dina to Mana

 

Day 9: Trek from Mana to Dhundi and drive back to Manali

 

Day 10: Depart from Manali



The weather in the high altitude is unpredictable. So, it is better to keep some buffer days for the trek. This trek is a challenging trek and requires proper training, training guide and good level of physical fitness. Proper acclimatization is also required to avoid altitude sickness. The dress code must be comfortable according to the weather. The day temperature varies from 10-15 degrees and nights are from 4-6 degrees. The trek route gradually gives way to snow beds from greenery.

 

The peak stays snow-covered round the year. It is safe to trek during winter but the battle with freezing cold should be taken care of. Trek during monsoon time should be avoided due to chances of landsliding.

 

There are many things to do in the Friendship Peak trek starting from Manali, including hiking, camping, and sightseeing.

 

Sightseeing in Manali

 

On the first day you can explore Manali, the city beside the famous and beautiful mountain river Beas. Sitting beside the Beas itself gives a peace of mind. You can talk to the river and will surely get answered by its waves going downwards battling with the hard rocks. You can visit Hadimba temple, Vashist Kund ( a hot spring). To play with ice you must visit Rohtang pass.

The mountain ranges and peaks you can view during the trek will be Deo tibba, Indrasan, Shitidhar, Hanuman Tbba And obviously Dhauladhar range.

 

Midnight climb

 

To give this trek more thrill you can trek at midnight. Climbing with a head torch on the snow patches will be great fun and challenging also. Not only climbing but to survive in the freezing cold under moonlit sky can be feeling like a professional trekker.




The tough climb requires new skills like using an ice-axe, setting up the tents on the snow bed, walking on snow, carrying heavy snow boots, and climbing on a steep trail are some of them. Friendship trek is popular as it is a bridge between trekking and mountaineering.

 

The first day of trekking is most important. On that day you have to through with all paper works like permits as per IMF guideline and state is required.
